The role of the Lean Engineer or Kaizen Engineer (where practice is most associated with Kaizen) is to assist in the attainment of waste efficient processes via the use of VSM (value stream mapping) and statistical analysis this is a hands on role in which they seek to apply the lean methods and tools to attain waste elimination from both their companies and the whole of the value chain. The Lean Engineer has typically risen up from the shop floor and has a good ability to nullify the “them and us” attitude that can often exist as management seek to break traditional work practises.
