Welcome to this, the first issue of the Six Sigma City Magazine. As change professionals we are all involved in the process of managing change
within our respective organisations, but how many of us embrace change in our own careers? How many of us are continually searching for the
improvements in our own performance that will take us to the next level? As Director of Operations for SigmaPro in the UK, my role involves
developing the business and managing the growth involved. That means dealing with new people, new clients, new partners, new products on an
ongoing basis. If we’re honest, sometimes all this change sometimes seems too much, yet our ability to deal rapidly with change, and accommodate
its effects, is often the difference between success and failure. If you examine the quality articles in this magazine, in all of them you will
find the change subject discussed. Moore in his article on Scotland discusses the changing industrial situation, with the decline in silicon
glen, but the growth in financial services, in amongst it all six sigma is thriving. The much quoted GE is again referred to as an organisation
that looked not only at its businesses and the need to change and develop them, but also kept the change programmes themselves under review
and made changes to enhance and improve them with the addition of the Define phase to the MAIC cycle. Lean Sigma itself is of course a combination
of Six Sigma and Lean, brought together by practitioners who recognised the common themes of both, but also the differences, and the fact that
combining them made a much stronger approach to business improvement. As individuals we must also be looking continually to review and improve
our own performance in the roles we carry out, the inspect-a-gadget articles will give useful hints and tips from people who have tried and
tested new technologies in their own roles and found them useful (or otherwise). Have a look at their findings and save yourself the trouble
of doing all that testing!
So, welcome once again to this the first issue of the Six Sigma City magazine, as change professionals you’ll be reviewing the articles for
potential ideas for your own roles and future careers. Think also about how you personally can manage the change in performance in your own
roles, and respond rapidly to the change required to get to the next level. Enjoy the magazine
